Shoddy Workmanship September 12, 2007

You will not believe what “workmen” in Dubai pass off as a good job!! We recently changed from cable t.v to satelite and had some workmen from the satelitle company round to run the cables & put up the dish!! Well… I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves:
Apparently, the holes are “fine” and the cable is like that because we didn’t supply them with a long enough ladder!!
As you can imagine, they were told what we REALLY thought and the company is sending different workmen out today to fix it all….. God knows what we’ll end up with!!
Pink in Dubai!! September 6, 2007

We went to see Pink last night in Dubai Media City and she was FANTASTIC!!!!!! The girls went with their friends & Cam, Andrew, Lorraine & I went together. We arrived early-ish & had to wait till Pink came on at 10.30, in the meantime there were tv cameras doing the rounds and Cam managed to grab the attention of one of the camera crew and blagged his way into getting an interview!! Midway through the interview he went COMPLETELY camera shy & went quiet… now that WAS a first!! Pink was worth the wait tho as the gig was fab! Lorraine & I were bopping, poor cam was embarassed by Lorraine duncin’ & kept saying “Who are these people!?” Once she was done, me & Lorraine started chanting “We Want More” and got the whole crowd to join in……. how ace did we feel, starting the chant!!! As Lorraine said today, ye can tak the quines oot o aberdeen ………
The journey home was quite eventful too…… Lorraine has dubious talks with a 12 year old boy about 2 o’clock dashes with fat birds with 16 rolls of fat, I bust my toe open and then we stopped at Mcd’s to stuff our faces! Perfect!!!
The story so far!! September 1, 2007

Well folks, I’ve not been up to much due to being immobile but getting better & feeling quite good now! Still a bit swollen & numb but heaps better!
Have been doing the usual quiz nights etc, we even had all the kids with us at one point who formed their own team! Went to Dreamland, which is a big water park just outside Dubai, on Wednesday with some friends & their kids & had a great day out apart from the whopping great spider ants!!! My friend Lu is petrified of spiders so when my other friend Juls saw a HUGE ant on Lu’s head she was so busy concentrating on NOT saying spider that she ended up saying “Lu, you’ve got a GREAT BIG SPIDER on your head!!” Well, Lu freaked but saw the funny side when Juls explained why she said what she did!! It was one of these ‘you had to be there’ moments!!
Went out last night with a group of friends to The Noodle House at the Madinat for a girly night and had a ball! There were 8 of us and there was mucho eating, drinking & chatting! By the end of the night there was just me, Lorraine & Laura left so we decided we would blag a ride on one of the abra’s! For those of you that don’t know the Madinat, it’s got a big river thingy all the way thru it & there are these abra’s (small wooden boats) that take guests only around the Madinat! Well……obviously we were not guests but managed to blag our way onto one by pretending we were & giving a dodgy room number! The poor abra driver took us from one end of the Madinat to the other (I think) and was giving us the whole touristy shpeel! When we arrived at the other side we then decided we were going to the Apartment which is a club in the Jumeriah Beach Hotel. Laura insisted….Oh it’s just a short walk….it’ll take us 5 mins, so off we trots!! WELL…. half an hour later (or so it felt) we were STILL walking…minus shoes by this point and were passing all the REALLY posh villa’s that are part of the hotel. We considered crashing one of them and asking for a party but decided against it and carried on walking! We then stumbled across the security guard and Laura says “Give the bloke a random room number” The guard was actually female but never mind… She asks if we are guests, which Lorraine & Laura say yes, and then she asks for our room number. Laura looked at Lorraine, Lorraine looked at Me….I walked away pissing myself laughing! Lorraine then pipes up “Laura, Whats our room number??” At this point, Laura’s raking in her bag for the “key” and then says “I dont have the key….you do!!” Lorraine replies ” No….I gave it to you!” to which Laura then responds “Lee’s got it….she’s in the room!!” The guard then picks up her walkie talkie as she’s obviously thinking ‘aye right’ so Lorraine, completely stressing, says we’re going to the Apartment! Why we didn’t say that in the 1st place I don’t know coz she just let us through anyway!! Once we finally found the Apartment (after what seemed ANOTHER half hour walk, more blisters & filthy black feet) paid to get in & got some drinks! Nature called and we needed to go to the loo so we trotted off to find it. We were waiting in the queue and one toilet was pretty much silent but locked for ages and this woman said her pal was in there! Lorraine said “Are you nae a bitty worried about her…. she’s been ages” and then commenced battering on the door. Eventually she came out, saying everything was fine and we then went in! We decided there were 3 options which was taking her so long….. 1: She had passed out 2: She was being sick 3: She was taking illegal substances of some sort! Laura then ran her finger over the cistern and said “LOOK…..white powder….she’s been snorting and then launched into her ‘I did forensics and I could send it away get it analysed’ shpeel while me & Lorraine were in hysterics!! I then spotted some more powdery looking residue beside the sink ( which was probably someone’s face powder) and told L & L and the shpeel started again! Once we got over that, we headed back out for another drink and a boogie until the club shut! Much fun was had and the only thing missing was the portion of chips & curry sauce at the end of the night altho we replaced that with teaching a swedish bloke how to say “PISH”
As you do

Well that’ll be 2 weeks tomorrow since I had my surgery and I’m feeling pretty good considering I’ve basically been sawn in half! Got my belly button stitches out on Sunday and the rest of the stitches come out in a month! It wasn’t really that sore getting them taken out as the skin all around that area is still really numb (I suppose that was a good thing), however I don’t think I’ll be so lucky in a months time!! I’m getting more mobile day by day but still have to watch that I don’t do too much as I get kinda tired and sore! Have just started driving again but it can be a pain, literally, because of all the speed bumps! But apart from that I am really feeling good. As you can imagine, I’ve not been up to much else. I did go to the golf club on Sunday morning for an interview with a magazine though!!!!!! My pal Lisa was up at the shop and was approached by some woman who works for a new magazine that will be published in Dubai and asked if she would be interested in doing an interview about the area we live etc and to bring a friend! Well, we met the journalist at the golf club & answered all her questions….it’s basically going to be an article about the pro’s & cons of living in Arabian Ranches (where we live) from people who live there & it’ll be a different area each month! What we didn’t realise was that they wanted photo’s too
The journalist & photographer then followed us to our houses and did photoshoots with kids, dogs, palm trees etc…. oh ma heed…. I am NOT looking forward to that being published as I was standing like the hunch back of Notre Dam ( I still cant stand completely straight yet) and I had dark roots that would scare you as I wasn’t allowed to get my hair coloured before my surgery and 7 days after….nae bonny!!!
Never mind…. I may become a local celebrity yet!!!
I’m home!!! August 4, 2007

Well… it’s over, I’ve had my op and I’m now home! I’m pretty sore but all strapped up & popping the painkillers so it’s bearable!!
The tummy tuck went well and according to plan. My stomach muscles had split during my pregnancies so they had to stitch them back together before doing the tummy tuck! The painkillers are easing the pain of the actual scar but my muscles feel as if I’ve done a million sit ups!!!
Anyhow, I’m fine and resting at home getting the slaves (Andrew & kids) to run around after me & keep me happy!!
One more sleep! August 1, 2007

Well ….. one more sleep till I go into hospital! I’m starting to get REEEEEAAAALLLYY nervous now! One minute I’m fine then the next I’m imagining allsorts!! Didn’t sleep well last night at all… I wasn’t thinking about the op during the night, just tossing & turning every half an hour or so!! I’m off to meet some pals at Costa at M.O.E this morning. We’re dropping the big kids at Ski Dubai & the little ones at Magic Planet and I’m going to eats lots of cake & drink lots of caramel frappucino’s seeing as I’m not allowed to eat or drink after 8pm tonight!!
Was up at the golf club on Monday night for the quiz again and we came 1st place… woo hoo!! We won 4 x 1 night stays in……… wait for it………. the hotel at the golf club – which is 2 minutes from our houses!!!!!! We’ve decided that Lu (who lives even closer to the golf club than I do) is gonna have a party and everyone who lives further away can use this to stay over. We will then use the 2 cases of beer ( which they won as 2nd prize a few weeks ago) at the party, which I’m sure will help the party along greatly!! We’ve also still to use the vouchers for the Friday Brunch at the Polo Club that we won a couple of months ago (1st prize again…. we’re good eh!!) Obviously I’ll not be going to Quiz night next monday…. so there’s probably an even better chance of them winning!!!
Jet Skiing at Jebel Ali Beach!! July 29, 2007

We went jet skiing at Jebel Ali Beach with Scott, Louise & the kids yesterday…….it was sooooo much fun!!
We all went out on donuts & the kamikazi!!! Scott & Andrew were the only ones who were brave enough to go on the kamikazi. Louise & me were on the beach & heard Andrew screaming “stop” to Scott who was driving the jet ski… Scott & Lauren (who was passenger on the jet ski) never heard him and went even faster! After much screaming and eventually letting go of the kamikazi and bobbing around in the sea, Scott stopped and turned back. Once they reached Andrew, Scott asked “What’s the problem mate?” Andrew then replied ” Problem… what’s the f*#$ing problem???? THIS is the problem mate!!” and promptly flipped over and stuck his bare arse in the air!! The friction on the water has pulled his shorts clean off!!

Well going by the title of this post, I’m obviously back in Dubai!! The two weeks in Aberdeen flew by and was great to to catch up with friends & family but it’s great to be home!!
Have been feeling shattered since getting back, I know it’s only a 3 hour difference but I’m shattered around tea time but stay awake so I can sleep at night then by 9pm I’m wide awake till about 1 or 2 am then sleep till 11am!!! Need to get myself back in gear soon!!
Got back late on Wednesday night…flight was fine, nothing exciting happened (boring) and we were met at the airport by Andrew. Headed straight home for bed then had my pre-op appointment on Thursday! I’m going in for an operation on 2nd Aug so this was my final appointment prior to going in! Everything was fine, had to sign some paperwork, get my bloods taken & get general information about what I’m not allowed to do or take before the op. No exercise, no sunbathing, no alcohol, no multi vitamins ….the list goes on and on!!! Anyway all’s good and next stop is the operating theatre!!
Where’s the sun??! July 13, 2007
