Stories from the Eagars

A heap of us went for a girly brunch at Al Qasr Palace on Friday.  It was a girly get together before everyone takes off for the summer.  It was such a good day, we got there at 12.30pm and you paid 300dhs for all you can eat & drink and it was FAB!  The food was great…. I had heaps of little bowl thingys with various nibbles for starters, there was a sushi station, I dont like sushi so body swerved that one, but there were heaps of others to choose from… I can’t remember half of them (might have been the continuous champagne on tap that has had that affect tho!!) but for main course I had THE most gorgeous shepherds pie EVER!!  YUM!!!!!  Then dessert…… there was too much choice!  I ended up going for chocolate mousse & some white chocolate balls….. DOUBLE YUM!!

The drinks were on tap the whole day, everytime we looked away our champagne glasses were topped up again & there was sangria, mojhtos (nae sure if thats how you spell it) but GADS!!!  Me & Louise thought we’d be all sophisticated and get some.!  As Louise put it…. it tasted like something you had pulled from a herb garden!!  Anyway, we added sugar but still didnae make the taste any better so we gave up & continued with our champagne & sangria!!  We left at 4pm and headed for another couple of bars & ended up rolling home at 11pm….  This is the sober version of us earlier in the day… you’ll need to log onto my flickr to see the worse ones!

Spike is settling in really well!  He is a really good dog & does pretty much what you tell him apart from getting off the couch!!!  He was obviously allowed up on the couch in his last home & considering he’s 4 & a half, I think it may be a bit tricky to get him out of that!  I have given in  bought a fleecy blanket and put it on one chair and thats the only one he’s allowed on!! 

Not been up to much else!  Joanne is back in Dubai with her family as her house in Muscat has no running water coz of the cyclone.  Apparently, Muscat is in a bit of a mess!  Her hubby’s company has put her up in a serviced apartment until the water is back on.  

We went up to the quiz night at the golf club on tuesday night & met up with some other people there and we got THIRD place!!  Woohoo… our prize was…… wait for it……….. ……… GOLF TOWELS!!  As you can imagine, we were well chuffed with our prizes!! 

what I failed to mention that we… ahem….didn’t quite stick to the rules 

I was stuck in most of the day yesterday as all of our water heaters needed the pipes replaced so had a house full of plumbers for HOURS!!  Each bathroom etc has it’s own hot water tank so it took forever!  And now I’m stuck in this morning too as we’ve got more furniture being delivered!  I was meant to be meeting my pals up at Costa Coffee for a very important “meeting” but looks like I’ll not manage now! 

Oh… We picked up our Range Rover on Tuesday and I was soooooooo chuffed with it.  Andrew drove it home & I took heaps of pic’s of it…..(sad, I know!)  Well, I decided that I would drive it to the golf club on Tues night… you know, so I could arrive in style, and I only got out of my street & halfway down the road when the car blew up.  Well it didn’t actually blow up but I thought it was going to!!  While I was driving, everytime I accelorated there was a really dodgy sound coming from the floor under the front of the car… and it then kept stalling!  It’s an automatic….I didn’t think you COULD stall one of those?!  Anyway, I called andrew to come check it out as I wasn’t gonna drive it any further so once he arrived he jumped in and tried to drive it.  The noise that kept happening suddenly got worse & HEAPS of smoke started coming from under the bonnet….. now I don’t know much about mechanics but I do know that’s nae a good sign!!  The car got carted off yesterday morning and as you can imagine we were fuming at the garage so we got a loan car from them until ours is fixed! 

I think I’m getting a bit carried away with the smilies….. I just think they are ace!!

Meet our newest adopted member to the family…. he is a beagle, is 4 and a half years old and his name is Marti… only joking…….. his name is Spike!!

After long discussion, we have decided to get another dog!!  Obviously we had to give Tess (our dog in UK) away as we thought we were going to Qatar etc and the kids have been going on about another dog.  It will be better here for a dog as we have a completely enclosed garden, a bigger house AND I will not be working full time so will have more time to spend with it.

Anyway, Lauren was at her pals house in the Lakes at a sleepover and there was a notice up in the shop that there was a dog for adoption….. she texted me the number so I called to get some more information!  The family who have the dog at the moment are relocating to another country where it is difficult to take pets so unfortunately (for them) they have to leave him behind.  We went to see them & the dog and within minutes Cam & I decided he was ours!!  He is a beagle and is four & half years old and soooooooooo cute!! He is getting dropped off today around 11am so will post back later with some piccy’s of him!  

As you can see… I’ve had a LOT of comments regarding the whole Marti Pellow thing! 

It’s getting slightly out of hand now and what was just meant to be a personal opinion of something has turned into a full scale war!  As I said before, I never intended to offend anyone.  If anyone from this forum has a personal blog…. would I find everything in it to my agreement??  Probably not!  It’s called personal opinion & the world would be a boring place if everyone thought the same & liked the same things etc!  I respect your opinions and hopefully you can respect mine.  I have nothing against Marti Pellow… if you read a reply to a comment on my blog you will see that I went to see Marti Pellow in the UK a few years ago and he performed solo and sang his old wet wet wet hits, some of his solo stuff, some big band numbers and I can honestly say it was fantastic, so this is not a slur against Marti personally it was just me being excited to see Marti Pellow and being slightly disappointed!

Now…. can we change the subject please?  

Oh….my……god!!

I have just checked my blog hits again today & they are sky high.  On my blog site you can see if people have clicked on links etc from other sites and the wet wet wet forum are really going for it today!!  I hadn’t realised that I had upset so many people!!

Apparently I have been getting a bit of a bashing on a certain Marti Pellow forum regarding my comments on his show in Dubai!  Someone had googled wet wet wet & came across my blog!

Just to clear up matters if anyone from this forum happens to click onto my blog, I have never said that I am a Jazz critic or reviewer…. I just happen to jot down the things I do in my blog….if you take the time to read the rest of it you will find it is meaningless drivel!  

Someone happened to get the tickets for the show on my behalf & I found out AFTER that is was Jazz.  So… the table was booked & tickets bought so I wasn’t going to waste my money and not go!  As far as I’m aware everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that was mine…. sorry if I offended anyone!!!! 

By the way… thanks for putting the link to my blog on your forum…. I got the most hits EVER last night  

A crowd of us girlies went to see Marti Pellow playing at Jambase in the Madinat last night.  Well…… where do I start?!  NAE GOOD would be the phrase to describe it!!

To start off with, after we had booked the tickets, we found out that he WASN’T singing his wet wet wet stuff but he was singing stuff from his new album which is JAZZ!!  Now I have nothing against jazz but in my humble opinion, it sounded like Marti was singing his song, the bass player was playing the tune before and the pianist was playing the next one!!  Jazz does nothing for me as you can probably tell! 

So when Marti finally did come on stage (LATE), everyone was well on their way to getting gished!  He did his stuff but everyone chatted over the top of him & really wasn’t paying any attention at all.  We had a table of 10 and there were other larger tables up beside us & no-one seemed to enjoy the show!  I think the table next to us (another group of girlies) spent the night taking the mickey out of him!  Oh by the way, he looked ROUGH!!  Half of the crowd left half way through his performance and although we stayed till the end, they didn’t really miss much!  I went to the loo & when I came back there was still jazzy type music being played & I thought nothing else of it until Lorraine told me that Marti was actually away.. oops I never even noticed!!  Apparently he finished his last song, said “Goodbye Dubai” in a really sarky way, made a sarky expression and left!!  As you can imagine, no-one asked for an encore!! 

Just a little bit of “sweet little mystery” was all we were asking for!!
