Cam had his swimming gala this morning and I forgot my camera :-(

Luckily I had my phone with me so got a few dodgy shots…(nothing new there then eh!)  Considering Cam could not swim properly before he came here, I think he did really well and in one race he came 3rd…..ok there was only 3 people racing but he still came 3rd!!   :-)

80’s night…… May 27, 2007

We went to the 80’s night at Irish Village on Friday night….(andrew managed to be home for it) and it was fantastic!  Tony Hadley, Martin Fry & Go West were performing and the sung all the classic 80’s cheese that they belted out but also covered some other newer songs.  We went to Angie’s house 1st as she had our tickets & we all left from there.. (I lost count but there must have been at least 20 of us as we took three cars which were all full and the smallest car, which was mine, was a 7 seater!)  We arrived there and got the drinks in (we left the cars!) and proceeded to get sloshed!!  The music was brill & the company was brill and I dont think anyone didn’t have a good night!  Andrew was on fine form….. at the end of the night once the grass in front of the stage had cleared a wee bit, he decided he was dancing….on his own!!  It was a classic case of “dad dancing” if ever I saw one!!!

“Dad Dancin”     Dad Dancing!      Boozy!    Gished!!

p.s…. more pics on my flickr page but I am warning you now that they are dodgy!!!!

…….well, not really but I’m allowed to dream!!

I went for coffee this morning with my friend Marina to Central Perk.  Yes, before any of you say it, it is a coffee shop based on the coffee shop from “Friends”… anyhow, we went there & had coffee, breakfast and a natter then a film crew came in!!  We were actually just finishing up when we were asked our permission to be included in this film thingy!  So obviously we ordered more coffee and said yes!!  I have no idea what the filming was for but as I have a HUGE spot on my nose, I made sure I had my back to the camera!!  So hopefully I may appear on something somewhere…. so in  future if anyone see’s the footage….I’m the one with her back to the camera, wearing a white, green & blue stripey vest!!!!!  (send me a copy please!!)    8-)

Oh by the way…. I was wearing my sparkly flip flop’s too ….I knew they would come in handy!!

I bought myself two lovely pairs of shoes….one pair of sparkly flip flops and one pair of beige wedge heels.  I was really chuffed with my purchases until I drove home…. I got a flat tyre!  That was obviously my punishment for splurging on 2 pairs of shoes!!!  :-(

Finally, I have a car! May 17, 2007

I have finally got my own car at last!!!!!!!  Andrew bought a Landrover Discovery for himself and I have been running around in my hired Toyota Camry since we got here…the reason I couldn’t get a car before now was the fact that you can’t buy a car here unless you have a residency visa and a dubai driving licence!  As I have both of these now there was no excuse!  Again…we traipsed round the garages, decided against the Porsche Cayenne (told you I would change my mind again!) and ended up seeing a really nice RangeRover Vogue that we liked.  Just as we had decided, yep we’ll take it…I spotted this people carrier thing & thought…NICE!  It is a Mercury Monterey, black with black out windows, cream half leather, a/c seats (instead of heated seats but it also has that too!!), flip down dvd player (cam was well impressed), alloys, parking sensors blah blah and it is a seven seater too which is handy for the kids.  The nice thing about it is that instead of the usual set up of 2 seats in the front, 3 seats in the middle row & 2 in the back, this has 2 in the front (obviously), 2 in the middle row & a 3 seat bench in the back.  The selling point to me was the fact the the two rear passenger doors don’t open the normal way but slide (like a minibus, I suppose) and are automatic so I can be walking towards my car, hit the button on the remote central locking and the doors slide open!!  Cool eh!  Even better still, the boot opens and closes automatically too, also by pushing a button (I’m easy pleased!!).  Anyway, I decided I really liked that car so in the end we ended up buying both!!!  I picked up the Mercury on Sunday night and we don’t get the Range Rover until Andrew is back from Houston.  Oh … as you have probably guessed, Andrew is in Houston just now!!!   All we need to do now is sell the Discovery (no point in being greedy and having 3 cars is there!!)

Not been up to much else really.  Was laid up this past few days with a really dodgy stomach bug (that’s as much info as I’m willing to share) but much better now. We were meant to have a dinner dance next Thursday night at the Dusit hotel but as Andrew will still be away, I don’t really fancy going on my own as the rest of our table are couples & I’d feel a bit of a spare part!  However, on the Friday night we have an 80’s night at the Irish Village.  Go West, Tony Hadley & Martin Fry (the guy from ABC) are performing.  There’s a crowd of us going & I won’t feel too bad going to that on my own as although it’s a heap of couples, it’s more laid back and us girls will more likely be boogying and leaving the blokes at the bar!!

Anyway…must go now… I need to buy new shoes seeing as my favourite ones broke!!!

Harlem Globetrotters!! May 14, 2007

Went to see the Harlem Globetrotters on Friday night!!  They were AMAZING!!  I remember them from when I was a kid but to see them in person is unbelievable!  We managed to get VIP tickets so we got in half an hour before everyone else to see a wee ”show” before the regular punters arrived!  We were sitting courtside…i.e the row RIGHT at the front … RIGHT behind the net (or whatever it is called) …I’m lucky I didnae get a ba’ aff ma heed!!  Saying that… kayleigh managed to have a 6ft 6′ basketball player “fall” into her during a game……I was obviously sitting in the wrong place!!  :-(

It was a fantastic show & I can honestly say we were peeing ourselves laughing throughout most of the show….especially when loz got pulled up by Globie, the mascot!!  To explain the situation, you really had to be there but here goes….   Imagine the situation… we are sitting courtside…. the mid game entertainment is on  … i.e a bloke dressed as a weird looking thing with a globe for a head doing bizarre dances etc….(bruce, you’ll know what I’m on about!!) well..anyway…he meanders towards us….I poo myself as he comes towards me (only because my shoe broke..more on that later!) he then diverts himself & grabs Lozza!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

She VERY reluctantly gets pulled up in front of 2 thousand people and is told to copy Globie and do some freakish dancing….she refuse’s, gets kicked up the bum and sent off court!!!!!  If anyone doesn’t know what  or who Globie is …go to this page & you will see!!   ………  http://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/kidscourt/globie.asp   She was approached after the show by some random people saying they felt sorry for her & even worse, she was approached by HEAPS of people in her school a few days later saying “ha ha you are a retard!!”  Anyway … it was fantastic anyway ( if I’m lucky, I’ll appear in “Hello, Middle East” seeing as I was a front rower!!)  Actually, there were a few “women” that I will describe as wannabe WAGS…. they looked like Posh Spice, without the hair & make up… but the jimmy choo’s & chloe bags were there……they might have been from karama for all I know but they looked the part anyway!!   back to the point in question….. harlem globetrotters were ace… back to my broken shoe story….  I had flip flop’s on and when we got out of the car , I noticed that the front of my flip flop was ” talking”!!  In other words…. the sole of my shoe was flapping against my foot!  I walked “abnormally” into the hall & warned the kids that if they made me move I would ground them forever!!  When Globie made his advances…the first thought I had was not “oh my god, I’m gonna make an arse of myself in front of HEAPS of people” but “Oh my god,  MY SHOE!!!!!!!”  Luckily Lauren made an arse of HERSELF and my shoe stayed in the background.  Altho I did have to get ALL the players autographs on a shirt to send back to Aberdeen for a charity auction….. might just keep the shirt for myself seeing as I spent SO MUCH time in amongst SWEATY 6FT HUNKS……..call it a reward for hard work!!!!      ;-)

My Hectic Social Diary!!!!! May 2, 2007

Things are kinda getting back to normal now after our visitors, social life is picking up again :-)

We went out on Friday night to the JW Steakshouse in Deira, with Vicki & her husband Mark, who were over from Aberdeen and their friends (who also live in Dubai & were staying with.)  It was a really nice night had some good food, good wine and a good natter.  By the time I was getting into the swing of things the restaurant was shutting up shop & it was time to go home!  Everyone said their goodbyes but at this point I didn’t want to go home just yet so me & hubby ended up at Zinc (a nightclub in the Crowne Plaza)….we had an absolute ball… befriended some dutch trolly dollies and had a right laugh.  When it was time to leave I suddenly realised that I was completely trollied.  Turns out the vodkas that hubby was plying me with was actually doubles not singles!  NAE GOOD!  Anyway, we thought we’d better get up the road before I keeled over but on the way home we had to pull over twice so I could….erm…. how can I put it….. spew!!  Classy bird eh!!  Saturday was Kayleighs birthday so I kinda died on the couch all day then went out for tea at the golf club at night…poor kayl didn’t get much of a celebration!!

Didn’t do much on sunday, stayed in and got caught up with my washing and general tidying etc (I think I was still hungover to be honest!) and then on Monday I met my pal Alison for a coffee then went for Loz’s ice skating lesson, on Tuesday I had a job interview…(more on that in a minute) and we were out for tea with Vince & Sharon.  Today Cam’s got cricket & swimming lessons after school, tomorrow I’ve got a Virgin Vie party at my pals house round the corner and cam & Loz have their snowboard lessons, Friday Lauren has her freestyle skating club and then we’ve got a race night at the country club.  Then on saturday Cam has a birthday party!!!  It’s non stop!!

As for my interview……………….. My pal Alison works in a private nursery round the corner from the kids school and she mentioned that there was a job share going and would I be interested?  It’s working every sunday & monday 8am till 12pm and then every second thursday.  Apart from my own kids, I’ve had absolutely no experience in working with kids so I thought they wouldn’t even consider me for the job but apparently they prefer people with hands on experience rather than qualifications!  There is a qualified nurse there everyday and the nursery never advertise places or jobs as it’s just relies on word of mouth reccommendations & thats seemingly why it is doing so well!  I’ve more or less been told that the job is mine if I want it and the good thing is, they dont need me to start till after summer which gives me 4 1/2 months to get myself organised!! Its not a job that I would have ever considered before but in all honesty, the hours & days are perfect & I get all the school holidays off…can’t ask for more!  God help the poor kiddies once I start!!!
