Stories from the Eagars

We move to the other side of the world …..and end up with Aberdonians as neighbours!!!  Weirder still…. kayl & loz know their son from back home!!!  Bizarre!! 

AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH…..who said shopping was fun!!!

I have just spent the last 2 weeks furniture shopping, which I was soooo looking forward to before I got here…. If I never see another furniture shop again, it will be too soon! 

I never realised what a nightmare it is trying to furnish a whole house at once, we have traipsed from mall to mall, some nights until 11pm as all the shops close late.  Instead of getting furniture, I nearly got a divorce!!!!!  Everytime we had decided on bedroom & living room furniture, white goods, kitchen items etc etc, hubby would decide …nah, we can get it cheaper elsewhere and off we would traipse again!! I would have been better going alone but there was no way I was driving from mall to mall myself….I have absolutely no sense of direction here in Dubai & knowing me it would be just my luck to get lost, end up in the desert with no phone signal and die in the scorching sun!!! Well….. that was maybe a little exaggerated but you know what I mean! 

Anyway, the shopping chore is now over as the house is now furnished and we are moving in soon…..YIPPEE!!

We got to the airport in plenty time, didn’t forget ANYTHING (which is amazing for us) and everything was going swimmingly….until we checked in!!  As it turned out…. we had too much luggage so had to pay nearly 600 quid on excess baggage…. bang goes my shopping spree!!

Anyway, once we had gotten over that little hurdle, it was plain sailing again!  The flight to Amsterdam was fine and I have to admit I shed a wee tear as I got on the plane..(sad I know!!)  The flight from Amsterdam to Dubai was long but ok. The bright spark that is my hubby got us booked onto an overnight flight thinking we’d all sleep…..WRONG!!!  Try getting a (nearly) 8 year old who has spent the previous night, bouncing, climbing, swinging etc etc to go to sleep on a plane when there is 15 million films that he wants to watch all at the same time….it’s not going to happen.  So while hubby, kayl & loz all snored their pretty little heads off… I was left with matchsticks holding my eyes open while cam continued to channel hop every 2 minutes!

Once we arrived in Dubai (6.30am this morning), Cam realised it was his birthday so made EVERYONE aware of the fact, just on the offchance that we failed to hear the million times that he already told us on the plane!  As a surprise, hubby had booked a Hummer Limo (cam’s favourite) to collect us from the airport and take us to the house.  Cam was beside himself!!  We dropped our bags at the  house and then the Limo took us to his office so he could pick up his car.  We then drove to the apartments, checked in….and slept!!

When cam woke up, he was in such a foul mood & we couldnt understand what was wrong until he said that he had missed his birthday…..He thought he had slept right through his birthday and that it was the next day!  When we told him it was only tea time & still his birthday he was much happier!!  We went out for tea in the Mall of the Emirates & went to Magic Planet with the kids… its an indoor amusement park in the mall. 

Our next mission is to furnish the house….. shopping…..bring it on!!!!!

The house is now empty….it’s strange!  We spent last night in a hotel and cam was just sooooo hyper, he was bouncing off the beds, climbing up the wardrobes….it was a wonder he wasn’t swinging from the light fittings too!!  Still a bit nervous but for some reason it just doesnt seem real!  We went to the Cove Bay Hotel yesterday for a family/early birthday lunch for Cam…(his 8th birthday is tomorrow) with Mum, Dad, my brother Bruce and my Aunt Sheila.  It was really nice and could have been a bit emotional but I made sure we didnt say our goodbyes as we will see them today as they will come to the airport to make sure we actually leave the country!! 

Just at the house getting rid of the last few bits of rubbish and then Ann (my neighbour, friend & surrogate mum) is going to take me & Cam to the airport and hubby will take Kayl & Loz with him in his car!  So basically this is it………..the next time I will write I will be in sunny Dubai!!!

It’s all feeling more real now… the packing company turned up today to get our stuff packed up and shipped off.  I thought I was organised……I thought wrong, so I disappeared for lunch and left hubby to it!!! (Well it’s about time he got his hands dirty!!)  By the time I got back, they had gone with our stuff and as usual…. hubby forgot to include some REALLY  important items i.e. my wok and cam’s pirates of the carribean poster. Yes.. I know I will be able to buy more when I arrive in Dubai but that’s besides the point…. it just proves my point that MEN NEVER LISTEN!!!!
